A few weeks back (my time sense has been so confused by recent events), I noticed that a crew had come and cut down the two Judas trees on my walk to work. They were getting a bit old, it's true, but they bloomed faithfully this spring as always.
Yesterday, I saw that their trunks and larger roots had been ripped from the ground, hacked up, and piled next to gaping holes in the ground.
It looked like graves had been violated.
