welcomerain!), I will be nigh unreachable for a while. We all knew RCN/SBC were going to screw me over switching my service, we just didn't know how. Turns out, they waited until Monday to inform me that SBC couldn't find my address. I got that corrected, but it takes three days for SBC to get off its well-compensated hindquarters and do anything. (Perhaps this is the same sterling service they offer their own customers, but it certainly feels a "fuck you, defector!" benefit reserved for competitors' clients.) On the other hand, the disconnect order went off without a hitch.
With luck or divine intervention, I'll be connected by Friday evening. (Note to self: Bring offering of turmeric to Ganpati tonight.) Theoretically, they will be forwarding calls from my old number, but--as one friend told me--"Yes, they will forward your calls. The question is, where will be forwarding them to?" The new number doesn't have a cute mnemonic I can publicly display here, so contact me if you want it. Of course, my access to e-mail will be erratic as well, since I'll be out of the office until Tuesday and spending much less time in the vicinity ofmonshu's computer than normal. So try not to make any fantastic last-minute offers or have any sizable crises for a while. I'm sure y'all can manage that if you put your minds to it.
