"This was a nice low-key day," the Old Man told me before heading downstairs to sleep. I told him beforehand that I wasn't going anywhere and I wasn't buying anything, so we didn't make any plans. I did make a list, however, and got to cross off all but a couple items. (Unfortunately, the last one of those items was "go through the mail" since anything that even looks like a bill is guaranteed to raise my anxiety level.) We now have a stack of thank you notes ready to be sent to various units in the hospital, a bowl of turkey stock in the fridge, and some idea what I'm going to do about my poor dead phone.

Speaking of keys, I finished Seth's An equal music, which I thoroughly enjoyed. Some reviewers apparently found the banter between the characters tedious; I found it amusing and more than once burst into laughter in a waiting room or on the shuttle. Even without the added stresses of the last week, I would've found the tragic central romance moving. It gets a bit traveloguey during the scenes in Vienna and Venice, but I love both cities so I forgave that. All in all, a solid novel. Now I can focus on the Green, which hasn't seized my attention in the same way but is still a good read. You could call his twists melodramatic, but at least I haven't been able to see them coming. He also has a wicked sense of humour and a knack for personal description.
