I didn't get a chance to write up my reactions. As a first-time audience-member for this opera, there was a lot for me to absorb.
Interestingly enough, Peter Rose was unable to sing at our performance, and David Govertsen (who is usually the Majordomo) sang La Roche instead. He did such a bang-up job that I couldn't imagine anyone singing it better. I guess they had a deep bench for this one.
I did figure out the bit with the mirror, by the way. There are some andirons at the edge of the stage, and a mirror is often hung above a fireplace.
