Hmm. I always read Bert and Ernie as children who were living my dream: living with your best friend without adult supervision! I think because they act like kids, they don't go to work, and they talk about playing and having paper-clip collections and suchlike. I am fine with a queer reading, but I will defend to the death their child-ness!
