I became "disillusioned" with the Oscars in 1978, when Annie Hall beat Star Wars for Best Picture. I consigned the Oscars to utter irrelevance (save as an excuse for a party and snarking) in 2000, when American Beauty won Best Original Screenplay over Being John Malkovich AND Magnolia.
