WotD: pussycat!

Me acuerdo que una muy amiga nuestra siempre decía "Hola pusigato", pero a lo mejor fue por influencia de su temporada en los EEUU. A mí siempre me llamó la atención esa frase, y siempre que hablo a un gato español, me sale esa frase. Minino, no conozco, pero a lo mejor se dice muy a menudo.

Tagalog has "pusa" for "cat." I am not sure where it came from. But it's similar to "pussy." We have "kuting" for "kitten" but I notice Indonesians have "kucing."

The problem with such a phrase is that the translation is meaningless in some languages. Then there's also the pussy/cunt kind of thing that makes it so nice.

Seriously. It means nothing but the literal words. Think of "From lost to the river" (I'll give you 5 points if you know the spanish one and its meaning).

Minino is a word to call cats. It's also a word barely used to call them. It's more "gato" or "gatito", when using the diminutive-cuddly type of suffix.

Regarding "mixeta", it's also very very very outfashioned catalan. However, it comes to my mind tha version they did for the catalan version of Batman returns, which makes me remember a cunt of a pussycat: Gatona, like big, filthy, horny pussycat (incidentally, gatona remember xona, which is a "funny" word for "fanny" in catalan)

There is a song from a few years back that puns on "camán", with the curfá "Camán, camán, seo chugainn na buachaillí báire!" (i.e. "come on, come on"). An bhfuil rud éigin ar eolas agat nach bhfuil ar eolas agamsa?

Unfortunately, Miezekatze has no "dirty" connotation at all and never refers to anything else than a cat, so the example sentence doesn't make any sense. ;)

If you want to keep the double meaning, Muschi is better - although nobody really says it to describe cats anymore, so it might already be too raunchy.

The movie was called "Was gibt's Neues, Pussy?".

Yo. D'you do requests for WotD? I want "out loud", as in to say something out loud. I know in French they say "en haut" (which also means upstairs), but I would love to know how other languages express the concept.
