SSC: ABBA

When I was a child, I thought ABBA was a Christian band, like Petra.

That would make sense actually....

I know, right? This is before I knew the titles of any of their songs.

Omg, I was obsessed with Petra in 7th and 8th grades.

IIRC, they also had more than their quota of beardy dudes.

They were just a name to me. I remember hearing/reading about them, but I couldn't name or identify a single one of their songs.

I had a circle of friends that were very into the whole Christian rock thing. I know *many* Petra songs to this day.

"God gave rock and roll to you" might have been the most secularly famous. At least, it was used at the end of a Bill and Ted movie. I think the second one. :)

Although my personal favorite song of theirs doesn't appear to be considered one of their biggest hits.

I really don't know/remember a lot of other Christian rock bands, but I think Petra might have been the biggest band (except Stryper which I didn't like and therefore don't remember). So, I remember Petra.

I might remember a bit of others if I heard them, but I can't really recall any off the top of my head.

SSC: while I'd heard of Petra in middle school (had a friend who liked them), I pretty much just twigged to the fact that their name is a pun (and a multiply layered one) while reading this thread.

I thought ABBA was a Christian band too! I mean fundamentalist - many bands are Christian, but not "Christian."

By the way, did anyone here ever sing the hymn "Abba Father" as a child, or was it just us Catholics? Did anyone ever notice it's the exact same melody as "Chariots of Fire?"
