Wait a sec. There's a difference between an andiron and a firedog? I never knew that.

According to some sources, fire dogs are ornamented and cob-irons are not, and this appears to be the distinction between Welsh brigwn and gobed as well. I'm not completely sure, however, so I've got a date with the big Welsh dictionary at work come Monday.
