Interesting. I don't know Catalan, but the Spanish I took in high school - plus a little general knowledge concerning the relation between the two - was enough to let me puzzle out most of this.

Did the Catalan periphrastic past make your head hurt?

It did take me a moment to realize what it was; context helped, of course. I think I'd heard some mention of it before, though.

I was able to get some the gist of this, which was surprising (considering I have no idea what language it is, at least not before guessing from the context). It sounds like Spanish and French thrown into a blender :)

Best listened to when I'm so awake enough to parse words, but too tired to think "Hey! that word doesn't belong in that language!"

This is how a dog named "Big Chicks" hears Spanish, isn't it?

Can't fool me. I'm a "sharp-y."

I could've called it Grandes Chicas, like an orquera de vacas of mine always does. (Or perhaps, more appropriately in this context, Dones Grans.)

That would just spoil it for poor l'il "Big Chicks," sitting there wagging his tail, ears perked, looking all hopeful, but a tad confused.

Who's a good boy, Big Chicks? Huh? Who's a good boy?

Unless dogs have the power to understand bolded words . . .

;)
