If it has to do with masons, it's...

Meet the Candidates Night at my condo yesterday wasn't half as bad as I was fearing. Perpetually Disgruntled Lady brought her capital-A Attitude along, but at least there was no rancourous argument between her and the president of the board. My generally negative opinion of him hasn't changed much, though, but both the new candidates look pretty shiny, so I can vote for them in full confidence.

One of the hot-button issues was the ongoing tuckpointing-and-then-some project. Of the five candidates, two called it "masonary", which is a variant I hadn't heard before. One had a strong Southern hill accent (Tennessean, unless I miss my guess), but the other is, AFAICT, a Chicagoan. Has anyone else heard this pronunciation lately?

I don't care what anyone says. I like the masonary position.

I think it's because you enjoy being ex-templaraneous.

No, but also, *HATE*.

I misread your first sentence as meeting the Canadians and couldn't imagine why your condo was having a Canadian night. It's not July 1 yet, is it? Why would anyone in Chicago make a point of meeting Canadians?

They're looking for a quick puck?

They always get their man

Before you go nucular on his ass, everbody south of the Masonary-Dixon Line saya-it that way. I have heard it before, as in "check out the masonary on that one."

I've actually never heard it before, but I'll add it my list of architecture terms, which include "Palladium" (for Palladian) and "fireplaced."
