Linguoboy's lament

Do you know what it's like to be out somewhere and suddenly experience the sinking feeling that you can't remember or don't know something like the German for "wood grain" (Holzfaser) or the Mandarin for "railyard" (火車場) or the French for "Y'all be quiet!" (Taisez-vous!) and--worse--there's no one around you can ask and you're at least a half-hour from all your reference works?

I tell you, it's difficult to be me sometimes!

Deine Probleme möchte ich haben! *shakes head*

;-)

How many languages do you actively speak, anyway?

I can totally relate to this. Thanks for voicing my own frustration. :-)

The sinking feeling that I didn't know something in German haunted me all through my junior year of high school. Dropping the subject for senior year solved the problem.

I feel your pain. It's lumpy.

I aspire to be you in a future life.

Oh dear GOD yes. I remember writing something and I couldn't, for the life of me, remember how to write the kanji for "machine", at all ... I made all these pointless random strokes in hopes that it'd come to be, but it didn't until I came home and poured through my kanji dictionary. ;_;

And I've had conversations in Spanish where I've had to use, "esa cosa que se usa para ...," simply because I've completely blanked on a rediculously simple word.
