Bright, clear, cold, and dry

That's today's weather in a nutshell. A little above freezing right now, but with bold blue skies and almost nothing on the ground. I saw a few ice slicks on the way in, but I imagine they've since resumed their slow trickle into the sewers. Coming to work was spooky. I literally didn't see a single person on the roads or paths all the way from the el (I stupidly missed the shuttle again) to the front door. But all my staff was here and seemed happy to see me again. I can't imagine I'll get much done and there's nothing open on the campus, so I'm already planning a leisurely walk down to Pita Pete's for lunch.

The Lord Abbot speaks

"If I were a gay Asian kitten, I'd be named 'Suki'."

Relationships are hard; let's go shopping!

Sakes alive, that was one tiring conversation. A very necessary one, since it soon emerged that we've both been avoiding ticklish subjects because we're afraid of the reaction from the other person. Fortunately, most of it came out without anyone having to storm off into the other room (although I came very close) and we ended with compromise, reconciliation, and an action plan. (Which reminds me: Before I put this to bed, I need to do some looking at CD storage solutions. Bleagh!)

As for the precipitating incident, [livejournal.com profile] monshu said that there's really no way he can predict these breaking points. It's only after the fact that he can see the accumulation of exhausting effort and thwarted expectations that led up to them. That doesn't mean the situation's hopeless, just that we have to pay more attention to the root causes. And hire maids!
