The week in miniature

  • Friday Meet [livejournal.com profile] monshu for dinner at Big Chicks; learn (a) what goes in a negroni and (b) about the peculiar aerodynamic properties of cardboard coasters until bartender confiscates them all.
  • Saturday Go shopping in the burbs. See some beautiful furniture, then pay ridiculous sums for silly Japanese candies at Mitsuwa. Stay up too late watching volcano shows on TDC; develop mad crush on Capt. John Lindeman as portrayed by Darrell D'Silva.
  • Sunday Blow off the morning sleeping and playin with new Zulu dictionary. Watch Almodóbar's Todo sobre mi madre with [livejournal.com profile] monshu, who doesn't care for it. Stay up too late researching actors' origins on IMDb.
  • Monday Stop by [livejournal.com profile] monshu's to finish birthday card, pulling my hair out at my lack of talent and creativity. Break "blowjob" shotglass from Excalibur in act of supreme clumsiness.
  • Tuesday Meet [livejournal.com profile] bunj and e. for dinner at Tango Sur; eat way too much. Stroll around for just long enough to make room for dessert from Café Meinl. Come home and finish reading El capitán Alatriste while unable to sleep.
  • Wednesday Meet e. to stow trenchcoat before hooking up with [livejournal.com profile] bunj and HoDaRing it to the Cell for her first baseball game. Watch Cards lose miserably against WhiteSox. Drunkenly sing "Wave of Mutilation" through half-hour cattle drive to el stop afterwards.

(no subject)

When I was a child in the 40s, the Catalan language was forbidden. I realised that to have two languages and cultures is better than one; three better than two. You should always add, not subtract. I've tried to be a kind of European with a knowledge of other areas of the world. (Juan Goytisolo, in an interview with the Guardian, 12. Aug. 2000)
