Ignoble, ignorable update

All I can think to report is that I got myself all wound up last night trying to find my Japanese chop and the only way I got to sleep again was by putting on my headphones and alternating between "She was a hotel detective" and "Quite unusual" over and over again while I played flower cards until I was all tuckered. Oh, and masturbating while thinking of that barrel-chested guy who I've seen smoking on the front steps of a brownstone across the street from [livejournal.com profile] rollick.

As I fell asleep, I tried to think of nicknames for rock bands that weren't simply (1) their initials (e.g. OMD, CoC) or (2) the main noun without qualifiers (e.g. Mode, the Maniacs). All I came up with was "the Mats" for the Replacements, which is basically a variation on (2).

How did you decide on the Kanji to use for your
Japanese chop?
and...
That was *me* sitting across the street, you were dreaming, cause I don't smoke (Tabacco)

My surname I "translated". For my given name, I originally chose a simple Chinese name based on sound similarity (e.g. "Da" becomes 大 [da4] "big; great"). All it takes to make this a Japanese name is to settle on a reading for the characters. So far, I've been using the kan-on "Daimon" because it's close to the Korean (Daemun) and Cantonese (Daaiman) pronunciations. You could equally well read it "Obumi", but I've never liked the sound of that.

The Revolting Cocks are often referred to as 'RevCo'.

Which is a shortening, but neither of the things you identified.

Interesting. I just called them "the Cocks" (option #2). Seems to me they're not the only music group to be clipped in that Soviet style, but I'm stuck for another.
