Dia de orgullo

Yesterday was FANfuckingTASTIC! A lion's portion of the credit goes to tbearpsy and builder, who really know how to throw a great party in their beautiful apartment. I only hope builder took enough of a break from working his ass off to make sure everyone had a good time to have a good time himself. I'd also like to thank (in no particular order):

• Itako, for coming along and enjoying herself, too. I was very amused to find, as we left the party, that at least some of those present had read us as a couple. Tee-hee!
• john3876, just for being large and hairy as all get-out
• welcomerain, who called me with an offer I didn't quite understand. No matter; had I checked my messages earlier, I would've made a serious effort to drag her along to the party as well. Then what would the boys have thought?
• This year's parade organisers, for pulling on their jackboots and making sure the lumbering beast moved. It helped that this wasn't an election year, so politicians only slightly outnumbered actual floats, but that alone doesn't explain why there weren't any annoying gaps or stalls. My original plan of watching only for a bit, then heading to the party, actually got scotched as I stayed for the whole thing.
• The big ol' bear standing near us for being so sweet about having his picture taken with me.
• ottr4bear, for taking that picture and many others.
• The two African-American dykes on the 151 bus who came up all the way from Memphis to celebrate our Pride.
• tbearpsy and his guests, for demonstrating a little ASL to our benefit and amusement.
• Monshu, freshly returned from the West Coast, for helping me release all that pent-up erotic energy.
• The party guests, for not murderising me when I went out on the back porch, talked about the recent tragedy, and then jumped up and down several times before hightailing it back inside.
• grande, for giving me one last chance before inflicting PAIN!

The discovery of the weekend was that orange is the new pink. I wore a new orange tee because it was the most colourful thing I had and found myself in the avant-garde of basse couture.

Does every city have its Gay Pride festival around the same time? I was just on the phone with a friend regaling me about the "little person" bull dyke in full biker leathers riding a mini-bike.

No, in fact, that was something I learned at the party. Two bubba bears told me that Texas (which just has to be different from the rest of the country in everything, it seems) doesn't have Pride for another couple of months. There's supposedly some street festival thing in Dallas around now, but the actual parades and all are in August or September. Sheesh! Even Europeans celebrate Pride at the same time as Chicago, New York, etc. (Hmm...maybe that's why Texas doesn't.)

In that case, (1) they must have dyed their hair brown and been blonde underneath or (2) another arrogant Northerner falls victim to a game of Let's Put One Over the Yankee. May the South rise again so we can beat back down with bigger and bloodier sticks!

Hier findet es nicht überall am gleichen Tag statt. In Berlin war es letztes Wochenende. In Köln erst kommenden Samstag. Dafür soll Köln mittlerweile allen anderen Städten den Rang abgelaufen haben.
