Toronto Day 4: The cavalry arrives!

You can tell our days are getting busier by how much briefer these updates are; I come back too late and too tired to put much into them. So this will be mostly a shout-out to my local peeps:
  • [livejournal.com profile] nitouche and her smoking hoincredibly affable husband gave shape to a nothing day yesterday by immersing us in Toronto's Koreatown, showing us the neighbourhood "where the Italian people really live", and tipping us off to the existence of Xi'an cuisine in Chinatown. Oh, and incidentally introducing us to their charming little "triumph of recessive genes".
  • [livejournal.com profile] bitterlawngnome gave me my first real photoshoot. I really think y'all are going to like these. I didn't know I could look so hot! (Or that my body could bend in some of those ways.)
  • After more than four hours in the studio, [livejournal.com profile] danthered let me clean up at his place and then took me out for a lunch of tasty tasty goat. What a mentsh!
  • Moments after [livejournal.com profile] monshu had thrown down the gauntlet by ordering the Wooden Plate at Country Style, [livejournal.com profile] paulintoronto rode to my rescue by consuming half of what would've been left to me--not to mention treating us to the dessert I never would've had room for otherwise!

and tipping us off to the existence of Xi'an cuisine in Chinatown

You didn't happen to notice if 羊肉泡馍 was available, by chance?

(...said Pellinore, six years into his quest.)

Huh-- a quick google suggests that it is available in Toronto-- or was, as of 2008. http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/453506

Indeed, that's what brought us to Chinese Traditional Bun in the first place. But [livejournal.com profile] monshu was more intrigued by the Xi-an spicy noodles and I wanted to try the "Chinese hamburger" I'd read so much about. But we should have another chance today when we hit Ten Mile Aroma.

!

You not only hung out with Clan [livejournal.com profile] nitouche, but ALSO had a [livejournal.com profile] bitterlawngnome photoshoot?! (a) that sounds awesome, and (b) I really can't wait to see.

Which of the many available desserts at CS did you order?

[identity profile] muckefuck.livejournal.com 2011-05-26 01:25 am (UTC)(link)
None of them! We crossed the street to Future and I had the lemon mascarpone cake. It tasted like it had crumbled macarons on top. At this rate, I may no longer fit into the jeans I wore on the plane here.

so you see, you have probably sampled Dufflets' work after all.

OMFG it was wonderful. Much as I love Dobostorte, it would've been too heavy after that Tower of Meat.
