Also, I'd presume "Kermesbeeren" are named after Kermes insect dye", which we were also talking about. (That's the old world insect dye that got replaced by cochineal insect.)
I always understood pokeberries to be deeper-colored than kermes, but I don't think I've ever seen the latter.
