Táim ag iompáil chum teampaill mar a labhrann na Dubh-Shasanaigh. "I am turning toward the church where the bigoted Protestants speak."Straight from Dinneen's, hence the slightly non-standard spelling (e.g. chum for chun, iompáil for iompú). What he glosses as "bigoted Protestants", Dubh-Shasanaigh, is literally "Black-Saxons" and, like Turkish dönmek, the verb iompaigh has the metaphorical extension of "convert from one religion to another". Is anyone else having a little difficulty envisioning the precise conditions under which one might utter this?
