Wrong covers: Oasis edition

There are things in this world that are wrong, and there are others that are so wrong, they're right. Some novelty covers provide a refreshing break while only serving to underline the inviolable genius of the original version. And then there are those which all but make me forget the original exists.

In general, I'm not too picky about pop star vocals. After all, I was a huge Robert Smith fan back in the day. But there are some voices I simply can't stand. Jimmy Corrigan's, for instance, which is a damn shame given the calibre of his musicianship. In comparison, my dislike of Liam Gallagher's croaky vocals is a tragedy of much more modest dimensions; still, it helps explain my love for these two Oasis covers.

First, "Don't Look Back In Anger", as covered by England's all-time finest "scrumpy-and-western" band:

Now I know "Wonderwall" covers are a dime-a-dozen, but I still haven't found another to match the perverse brilliance of the Mike Flowers Pops' loving homage to my earliest musical memories:

I'd heard the Mike Flowers cover many a time, for a while the local "alternative" station was actually playing it more frequently than the original. But "Don't Look Back in Anger"? That's amazingly good. I'm going to suggest it to the next DJ at our semi-weekly social dances....

The Wurzels might not be too happy with that!
