Though I think becoming a locovore is a luxury better suited to the Bay Area than Chicago. Your selection of produce from within a hundred or so miles around, say, now, would be somewhat limited.
(As it happens, asparagus is one of the first things to come into season around here. Hope you don't need anything green till April, though. And fruit'll have to wait till May.)
