For some reason, I had it in my head that it was basically a straight-edged sabre (if that makes any sense).

Well, in essence that's what a broadsword is. Both are slashing weapons. Sabres tend to have a point (for charges), while broadswords (and Schlaegers) do not. I can't remember off-hand if a Schlaeger is double-edged.

If I ever do get into a dream duel, you are like so totally my second. In fact, I'd make you my first if such a thing were permitted. (Sadly, I strongly suspect there's no designated hitter rule in the bylaws of duello.)

From what I understand (and it's not like the code duello isn't, in fact, several similar codes based on time and location) you can have someone else fight for you if are obviously unable to defend your own honor (too old, female, deathly ill, etc.). We could always pretend you've broken your wrist in a riding accident just before the duel.
