Miscellany

THE bridal wreath (a.k.a. Spiraea prunifolia) around here is gangbusters, which is nice since the honeysuckle has already run out of steam. Also, the flags (a.k.a. bearded iris, Iris germanica) are coming into their glory, especially in the courtyard of my building and on the north side of the side street just north of [livejournal.com profile] monshu's building.

It occurs to me that, aside from [livejournal.com profile] androkles's photoreportage, [livejournal.com profile] bitterlawngnome's seasonal portraits, and [livejournal.com profile] hausmeister's chopping-and-lopping reports, I don't hear much about what nature is up to around the homes of those on my Friends list. So, spill: What's blooming and leafing where you are?

MY quote for today is "Buy some Valrhona, bitch." Unfortunately, I'm not at liberty to reveal who said it, but some of you should figure it out without too much trouble.

I'M putting together a list of the Highs and Lows of Bear Pride Weekend and I don't want anyone to feel bad if his name's not on it. If I saw you, you contributed something to my enjoyment. Sometimes I feel like I pack months worth of socialisation into three or four days--a sensation I could lessen by at least getting off my ass once and a while and doing something with you local folk. Help me help myself get out more!

READING the Osage grammar is still bringing me much enjoyment. There's a lot of interesting stuff in it I'm tempted to go on about here, but it would bore everyone or look like I was just showing off. Plus, given how poorly I know the language, the chances of making grievous errors would be substantial. Still, I may yet abandon caution to talk about instrumental prefixes, funky phonological processes, and portmanteau morphemes.

"Buy some Valrhona, bitch."

I say it all the time. Alas I was not the first to commit it to LJ.

*local person raises hand*

I got called a bear this past weekend at Shibaricon. That was interesting. I didn't know I qualified.

Our crap myrtle has long since stopped blooming, but the azalea keeps shoving out blossoms. It has been weeks and weeks now, which makes me wonder whether there's a body under the planting bed.

The wisteria is long done---so sad. Wisteria is one of my favorites. We're on our second round of honeysuckle, and the magnolias (not very common) are on the tail end of their bloom. It's hot as all get-out, and the love bugs are having crazy amounts of sex.

So what if Bear Pride only comes around once a year? You can hold your own little local Bear Pique Festival any weekend of the year!

Well, your irises are up, but not blooming. In fact, we had to move them because they were being crushed by the men working on the porch. Our peonies just started blooming, and -e's parents planted a whole mess of stuff which is blooming now, but I couldn't tell you what they are.
