Miscellany

THE bridal wreath (a.k.a. Spiraea prunifolia) around here is gangbusters, which is nice since the honeysuckle has already run out of steam. Also, the flags (a.k.a. bearded iris, Iris germanica) are coming into their glory, especially in the courtyard of my building and on the north side of the side street just north of [livejournal.com profile] monshu's building.

It occurs to me that, aside from [livejournal.com profile] androkles's photoreportage, [livejournal.com profile] bitterlawngnome's seasonal portraits, and [livejournal.com profile] hausmeister's chopping-and-lopping reports, I don't hear much about what nature is up to around the homes of those on my Friends list. So, spill: What's blooming and leafing where you are?

MY quote for today is "Buy some Valrhona, bitch." Unfortunately, I'm not at liberty to reveal who said it, but some of you should figure it out without too much trouble.

I'M putting together a list of the Highs and Lows of Bear Pride Weekend and I don't want anyone to feel bad if his name's not on it. If I saw you, you contributed something to my enjoyment. Sometimes I feel like I pack months worth of socialisation into three or four days--a sensation I could lessen by at least getting off my ass once and a while and doing something with you local folk. Help me help myself get out more!

READING the Osage grammar is still bringing me much enjoyment. There's a lot of interesting stuff in it I'm tempted to go on about here, but it would bore everyone or look like I was just showing off. Plus, given how poorly I know the language, the chances of making grievous errors would be substantial. Still, I may yet abandon caution to talk about instrumental prefixes, funky phonological processes, and portmanteau morphemes.

"Buy some Valrhona, bitch."

I say it all the time. Alas I was not the first to commit it to LJ.

See, without the electronic paper trail, how can I can I be sure?

*local person raises hand*

I got called a bear this past weekend at Shibaricon. That was interesting. I didn't know I qualified.

Name your date for a sojutini party at our house.

Gosh! That sounds like a world of fun! I'll try to come up something in June; it looks like a fairly open month.

It probably had something to do with your seizing grown men off the street, paralysing them with a bone-crushing hug, and ass-raping them until they passed out. At a guess.

Must have been something in my scotch.

In future, avoid the blue stuff.

If I were feeling typological, I'd classify you as a BIT (Bear-In-Training): You've got a promising frame, you just need some facial hair and a little more bulk. Of course, I'm real old skool about these things; seeing what the porn mags call "bears" makes me wonder what the hell the kids are up to these days.

Our crap myrtle has long since stopped blooming, but the azalea keeps shoving out blossoms. It has been weeks and weeks now, which makes me wonder whether there's a body under the planting bed.

The wisteria is long done---so sad. Wisteria is one of my favorites. We're on our second round of honeysuckle, and the magnolias (not very common) are on the tail end of their bloom. It's hot as all get-out, and the love bugs are having crazy amounts of sex.

[identity profile] muckefuck.livejournal.com 2005-05-31 06:08 pm (UTC)(link)
I think you're being unduly hard on your poor myrtle! The patches near my place seem to have given up blooming, too, which seems odd--I remember the stuff by my parents' house going all through the summer.

There's a film of me in the Factory saying it to Nico

So what if Bear Pride only comes around once a year? You can hold your own little local Bear Pique Festival any weekend of the year!

[identity profile] snowy-owlet.livejournal.com 2005-05-31 06:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh I'm totally not---I hate the thing. I left the "e" off on purpose.

[identity profile] muckefuck.livejournal.com 2005-05-31 06:31 pm (UTC)(link)
And every day is Bear Prejudice Day!

[identity profile] niemandsrose.livejournal.com 2005-05-31 06:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I didn't mean anything by it! Really! Don't crush m--mmmmmpf!

"Poor stick of a girl! If only she'd developed a healthy interest in food before it was too late."

It started out as "but some Sharffen-Berger, bitch" but it didn't scan as well.

I thought Romulan ale was illegal!

What's blooming and leafing where you are?

Well, your irises are up, but not blooming. In fact, we had to move them because they were being crushed by the men working on the porch. Our peonies just started blooming, and -e's parents planted a whole mess of stuff which is blooming now, but I couldn't tell you what they are.

[identity profile] muckefuck.livejournal.com 2005-06-01 03:36 pm (UTC)(link)
You mean you could tell me, but then you'd have to kill me?
