Procrusteanation

Heads up for [livejournal.com profile] innerdoggie, who was wondering about what it's like to be queer in the Caribbean. Stop wondering and attend the conference! (And let me know what you think of it if you do.) How did I find out about this? Field trip to HP! Details to follow...eventually.

In other important news, I learned a fabou new German word: Sahnehäubchen! Literally, "cream bonnet"; it's the head of whipped cream on top of hot chocolate. There will be more to come, since I picked up a swell new book on the current (well, as of c.1996) state of the German language. Details to follow...eventually.

Edit: Actual headline: Sahnehäubchen auf der eierlegenden Wollmichsau. I'm so farklemt I could plots!

If I were local, I'd wheedle you into teaching German to me.

No excuse! If you can do your job remotely, you can learn a language that way, nicht wahr?

BTW, one of the books I picked up was Murphy's revision of Daglish's translation of Sholokhov's Тихий Дон.

Jeebus. Amazon doesn't seem to carry the Russian, and the only Russian copy at Alibris is $88.00. It may be a while before I could join in this venture.

So then: what German text do I need?

Text? What doncha grok about "remotely"?

I've sometimes toyed with the idea of giving lessons in German or Chinese in this journal. Wonder who'd be into that...

Now, I took "remotely" to mean "I would be so happy to use German tutorials as an excuse to talk to you more often," not "piss off, schreckgespenst, and hie thee to a web site."

Is this what we've come to? We need excuses to actually speak to each other?

I tried ringing you up weekend before last and discovered--not for the first time--that the number I had for you is apparently obsolete. It made me very pouty! (Oder, wie wir es auf deutsch sagen, sehr schmollig!)
