So the latest gaming group drama is JB dropping out. Of course this came right as I was trying to grab some takeout and get home to make sure that the tuckpointing permit for the work starting tomorrow was safe and he immediately messaged me for feedback right after posting his farewell letter. He showed of lot of generosity of spirit while still blaming our "vibe" for essentially bumming him out.
Despite the flurry of convos (me messaging Big Red, JB messaging me, BR & JB brunching over the weekend, etc.) I still have no idea what to expect on Thursday. I reached out to Jiggly again and invited him to dinner but (as I suspected) he told me he wasn't available, while also emphasising that he "wasn't mad at anyone" just in case this was "some kind of reconciliation thing". So that's going well.
The permit was there, fortunately, just shifted from one vestibule to another by a helpful neighbour who didn't see the need to inform anyone of her helpfulness, and I called the head of the firm to let him know. He told me to expect the project head at 8 a.m. the next morning for a brief walkthrough and he was only ten minutes late. Both of them were very reassuring, not only addressing my concerns but anticipating them. And since they're also much cheaper than the last firm (you know, the one that trampled everything flat), I'm really waiting for the other shoe to drop with them.
