Awaiting the arrival of the mothership
I absolutely love that my Mom had my boyfriend tell me she was leaving STL over five hours after she told me she was going to because she was "too chagrinned" to call and tell me that herself. AS IF I EXPECTED ANYTHING DIFFERENT! Well, I was kind of of hoping she wouldn't leave more than 3-4 hours late so she'd be driving in daylight most of the way and would have a chance of getting a parking space somewhere near the house when she got in, but whatever.
I'm only really annoyed because she was charging her phone last night so she never heard it ring when I called to discuss plans. I'd kind of like to be able to tell two or three people what exactly our schedule is for tomorrow so that we can fit them in around it sometime before the last possible moment, but, again, whatever. If I've learned anything over the years, it's that the less I try to control the chaos of a parental visit the less stressed I'll be. (Within reason: Whatever happens, no more shopping trips to any place I don't know the way to backwards and forwards!)
So far, her only declared goal is a trip to the AI tomorrow. Dinner is up in the air--I'd like to take her out so
monshu can crash in peace, but I don't want to exhaust her too much either. Saturday night is Chinese New Year dinner with all the family in Chicago (well, barring steps) and then she's announced a desire to slip away early Sunday in order to avoid interfering with a holiday we don't even celebrate anyway. FUN FUN FUN! Look for updates if I can ever pry her away from a game of not-Tetris long enough to make any.
