Wait for it...

Subtitles which appear about three to four seconds after the lines they translate would be irritating even if I weren't comparing them with the spoken bits in order to learn the language. When that's one of the chief things keeping me interested in the film, they become the MOST ANNOYING THING EVER. What's odd is that [livejournal.com profile] monshu didn't seem to notice the delay until I pointed it out more than halfway through the film. It makes me wonder: What movie did he end up seeing?

Other than that, Rangeela (a.k.a. Bollywood Dreams) was pretty enjoyable. Structurally, it did have the flaw that we're supposed to be ga-ga over good-hearted orphan boy Munna (Aamir Khan) despite his boundless boorishness, quarrelsomeness, and general immaturity when really all we wanted was for him to go away and let Mili (Urmila Matondkar) live happily ever after with hunky, tortured Bollywood superstar Kamal (Jackie Shroff). However, the unintentionally tragic ending still works for me.

A few more of these and my comprehension of Hindi will reach the level of my comprehension of Cantonese circa 1994.
