Ate in Arcadia Eggo's!

Many, many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] his_regard for putting together yesterday's outing to see Remy Bumppo's production of Arcadia. (I realise I still owe you for the ticket; I was short of cash last night. Treat you to dinner?) I'd made some faint noises about catching it over Thanksgiving Break, but my vestigial organisational abilities never asserted themselves.

It was well worth it. Both [livejournal.com profile] spookyfruit and an old college friend who's returned to do theatre said it was better than the recent Goodman production. I have to admit, I was a little sceptical at first, but the actors from the first scene grew on me and even better ones emerged in the second. Lovely set (the long table was much coveted), good costumes (it takes a very self-confident man to wear Regency trousers!), and excellent sound design (always very important for Stoppard).

Many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] prilicla and [livejournal.com profile] lhn for joining us and especially to [livejournal.com profile] welcomerain and [livejournal.com profile] spookyfruit for giving me a ride home in HER CAR. (My ulterior motive was to give y'all back your drill, but of course that fell totally out of my head during the spectacular trip home on LSD.)

I'm so pleasantly sleepy now, all I want to do is lie down and nap until the snow covers us all.

Terminological fried potato question

Before the play, we had pub grub at John Barleycorn. It was their "all you can eat" (yes, we pretty much exhausted the jokes on that) fish fry night (why Wednesday?) and two of our party went for it. What I found amusing is that [livejournal.com profile] welcomerain's "fish 'n' chips" was actually fish and crisps. What I found even more amusing is that one of the waiters called these "cottage fries", causing me to wonder if this isn't one of the slipperiest culinary terms ever.

What do you understand by the term "cottage fries"? And is it different from "home fries"?
