This is Halloween?

Still trying to figure out how this weekend is going to shake out. Sunday is a scheduled game day, but more than half the party begged off. JB and I thought we'd meet for games anyway, which means I proposed Saturday for our annual Pilsen pilgrimage. But then the weather report declared Saturday a day of miserable wetness and Sunday one of the last fine days of the year. So, logically, we should switch these, but I don't know if that's possible at this point.

There's also the problem of the remaining planting to do, of course. I feel like I should buy some new bulbs to replace the once that rotted in my care and the plot in the parkway corner really does need another bag of sand to loosen it up properly before I seed it. More packets to sow would be nice, too, given that I think we can give up on seeing any of the promised echinacea seeds.

I'm committed to a party tonight and Sunday night, but both are close by and I don't feel obligated to stay at either one for long. Which is good, since I'm going on two nights poor sleep. At least I know the cause: I took Blondie out to Hopleaf for his farewell dinner and the white bean soup was just too damn spicy. Despite how pork-heavy their menu is, the best bite we had all night was his "falafel waffle". My "CB&J" sounded more interesting than it ate and was too fried.

We took a short stroll through Andersonville because naturally, despite how tired we were, we couldn't stop talking. He told me about an uniquely Bahraini holiday I'd never heard of before that has strong parallels to Martinstag--up to the part where the kids gather by the seaside to throw potted plants in the water. (WTAF?) And he insisted on stopping at W&CF and buying me a copy of Gay Berlin. Not only was it generous of him, it makes me feel a bit better for overpaying for a new copy of Enright's The Gathering to make my bookseller-friends happy.
