If you want to challenge social norms, if it's in your own space, your workplace, it's your right to do so. Those made uncomfortable by that, have the right to go elsewhere. I make it clear to anyone who seeks medical care with me, "if you're looking for a doc in a 3 piece suit, you're in the wrong place. Nor do I wear a white coat. I've seen too much white coat hypertension in my day." However, I work for myself, and not for a large medical group and that's by choice.

It's all drag dear, one way or another. His 'mountainman' attire may be true to his own ideals, but it also communicated to the person of honor that they were not important enough to warrant some nicer clothes or even a pair of pants. I do agree with your last thought about antisocial behaviour. Showing up as he did to that retirement party was about as appropriate as wearing a bridal gown to someone else's wedding. Sometimes, a social situation isn't all about you.

By the way, he's single, isn't he?
