I find it funny and a little sad that you and clintswan equate "having an identifiable Southern accent" with being "a hick". I thought Texans in particular were more positive in their evaluations of their regional speech patterns.

If it's any consolation, I asked monshu if he could've placed you based on your accent and he said, no, he thought you sounded like you "could've been from anywhere".
