It's the equivalent of German von. (Interestingly, however, the German version retains the Czech dative suffix, i.e. von Schluderpacheru.)

Genitive, I believe, not dative.

(Masculine dative is also -u, but genitive can be, too, when it’s not -a, and I think that “from” takes the genitive.)
